This concept demands that Christians pay taxes and submit to secular sovereignty, and provides the biblical basis for the separation of Church and State. There are, however, some differences that are not so easy to reconcile, if at all. Then surely, we may reply, it is strange that experience confronts us with "a morality made for man" in the form of an absolute, external claim upon us? The question is, to whom do they (we!) owe it?
